our wedding

Our wedding reception is going to have an Oktoberfest theme. What does that mean exactly? We'll be featuring German food, drinks, and maybe even some German music! We ask that you be sure to come thirsty and hungry -- make this poor catering company tell stories about the Wilbur / Styne wedding for years to come!

The reception is going to be held outside in a covered pavilion, so be sure to bring a coat or sweater just in case it's a little cold. The past few Octobers in Albany have been really mild, but you never know what Mother Nature might throw at us! If you forgot your coat or sweater, a few pints of Spaten Optimator will make up for it!

registry information

Really, we just want you to show up and have some fun with us. However, if you'd like to get us a trinket or two, we're registered at a couple places online. Here's some information:

Great Success! - October 17

The wedding went off without a hitch (except the hitching that is expected when one gets married) and we are back from Montréal!

Some photos are up on flickr if you want to check them out.

Falling Leaves - October 9

Wow, did we luck out. It looks like Sunday is going to be the nicest day around here for a few weeks. Brisk at night though. Mom and Dad pushed hard for heaters for the Grandmas, so I guess it's probably good that they did.

.SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY...MOSTLY CLEAR. LOWS IN THE LOWER 40S.
HIGHS IN THE LOWER 70S.
.SUNDAY NIGHT...MOSTLY CLEAR IN THE EVENING...THEN BECOMING PARTLY
CLOUDY. LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S.

We've been tying up some loose ends; this morning I got the seating charts/arrangements blown up at Hills stationery here in Troy. Not bad looking for $3. Music discussions are winding down and I think we're comfortable with the playlist for the most part.

Rob reports that the PA equipment is working great. Hopefully we'll have a chance to prime Jesse on it before the reception. At this point though short of a comet striking Earth or perhaps HSBC folding, everything is GO.

Getting Close - October 3

So as we get closer to the 12th, we have a picture of what the weather might be like. It looks like we'll have sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 60's. Of course, it will be cooler in the evening, so we definitely suggest bringing a sweater or jacket -- or just having another pint of Spaten Optimator!

A lot of folks have been asking us if we're nervous. Thankfully, we're really not. I think this mainly because we got a lot of the planning out of the way early, and just about every bill has been paid already. Erin was really concerned about the marriage license, which we got earlier this week. It was by far the simplest part of the whole rigamarole, but for some reason not having it really put her on edge.

Otherwise, things are going very well, and we look forward to seeing you all in a week!

At last! - September 12

Our invitations are going out today! We could have sent them out earlier, but we decided to do a test batch of them just to make sure everything was on the up and up with regards to postage. Those few that we sent out Tuesday arrived at their destinations yesterday.

So I guess keep an eye out for an invitation in your mailbox Monday or Tuesday! We've tried to reduce the amount of junk that will fall out of the envelope when you open it, but unfortunately some last minute additions made that unavoidable.

Not so inviting... - September 7

So, the wedding invitations are pretty much completely assembled. It always seemed like there was one more step to accomplish. They'll be going out Tuesday.

Anyway, tomorrow I'll be taking an invitation (Sully's, actually!) to the Post Office to have it weighed. Then I'll know how much postage I need to buy. I don't think it will be much past First Class, but only time and the Postal Clerk will tell.

I also need to buy some penny stamps to bump up the postcard stamps I bought awhile back. We're using postcards as response cards because, well, we had a lot of postcards left over.

So, how many pints is that? - September 4

I've just placed our order for specialty beers for the wedding. We have secured:

50L of Paulaner Hefe-Weizen Natural Wheat

A Hefeweizen by Paulaner Salvator Thomasbraeu AG in M?nchen, Germany. 5.50% ABV.

30L of Paulaner Oktoberfest-M?rzen

A M?rzen / Oktoberfest by Paulaner Salvator Thomasbraeu AG in M?nchen, Germany. 5.80% ABV.

30L of Spaten Optimator

A Doppelbock by Spaten-Franziskaner-Br?u in M?nchen, Germany. 7.20% ABV.

We'll also have the usual selection of American macro brews you'd find at a wedding reception. I think.

This is a lot of beer. If you like beer, and are coming to the wedding, please keep this in mind. You might even considering bringing a growler in case we reach the end of the night and it's not all gone. We'd hate for it to go to waste!

Oh yes! Invitations will be going out by Monday at the latest. We swear!

Tuxedo fittings - September 1

I forgot to mention that a few weeks back Bob and Tim were in town, and took the trip over to MEN'S WAREHOUSE with us to get fitted for tuxedos. Erin apparently had this all figured out. The guy told me that you can't wear a belt with a tuxedo.

I'll have to wears suspenders. Sounds awesome; Rob concurs.

Rob approves; Erin...

Invitation Assembly - September 1

Today we're starting work on assembling our invitations. Now since we're not terribly creative people when it comes to the arts and crafts and paper and ink, we ordered some very nice invitations off of the INTERNET.

We plan to mail them out by the end of this week, which puts us a shade under the 6 weeks prior that is apparently acceptable for sending these things out.

Invitation Assembly

You gotta pay to play - August 15

50% on our remaining balance for the caterers goes out the door today.

Goodbye, pennies. Thank you for visiting.

Bye bye monies

So, here it is. - July 15

I went for the 'cut off the end of a pipe' look. I think it'll work for me. Erin should probably have hers soon as well.

Wedding Band

Wedding Bands: Ordered - July 10

Erin and I have both placed orders for our wedding bands.

Erin is getting a nice stainless steel ring with some diamonds in it. She thought about it long and hard, and made a couple trips to Sabrina's jewelry store to scope things out.

I'm going for a tungsten ring that's super plain. No designs or anything. I thought about it for a couple minutes. I went to the jewelry store around the block on my lunch break.

And that's that!

Pre Cana Tomorrow - June 20

Erin and I are going to our all-day Pre-Cana session tomorrow. I'm not really sure what to expect.

The sheet says it will 'prepare couples for marriage'. Hoo.

Registry Information - May 17

Erin reminded me that we have wedding registries. Here's some information:

Asking people for stuff has really made me uncomfortable but I'm assured by people that know about things that this has to be done.

Disclaimer - April 22

Yesterday (friend) Jeremy called asking about the limited information about the wedding.

He asked, after reading that the reception would be 'Oktoberfest' themed ... would there be any special wardrobe necessary?

Let me assure you, friends, no special attire will be required.

We do ask that you wear pants.

/erinandmike - April 20

Today I'm working on getting the information set up for our little information page for the wedding.

It'll probably have some photos, maps, and updates and other useful information for people that will have to make their way out here.

More to come, of course.
