Video Conferencing With Tiger
Mon, 02 May 2005 14:59:55 -0400

Today I had a videoconference with some folks I had never met. The only thing binding us was our ownership of a copy of Tiger, an iSight, and a lack of friends meeting those requirements.
Jim, from Chicago, and Jesús, from Spain, and my...

Well, Uncle Steve has finally done a few things to piss me off.
First, the OS X Tiger installation media is DVD-ROM only. This isn't really a dealbreaker, but it was unexpected and added annoying complications to the install procedure. It's not a ...

Last year, I set up a MoveableType weblog for Erin. She's used it, albeit sparingly, with a certain amount of success.
However, with yesterday's bait and switch, I suddenly had the urge to move her to something else. Don't get me wrong, I have no...

Macintosh OS XP

According to Wired, the new hip thing is to make Windows boxen look like they're running OS X. Apparently, my brother did this to his XP box today.
Nobody seems interested in doing the opposite, though. I wonder why?...

So as I mentioned, work provided me with a mobile phone -- with a camera. Now I've always been of the opinion that cameras in phones were pretty stupid. But it appears that's pretty much all Sprint makes. So that's what I've got. My web access kicked...
LousyJournal

It looks like LiveJournal has been tinkering with their RSS feeds, which is causing my copy of NetNewsWire Lite to go bonkers.
On the plus side, it looks like the feeds contain whole posts now. Maybe I can bring back "The Newswire".
Or not....
Fun With mod_rewrite

I only just discovered Apache's mod_rewrite yesterday, but I've already implemented it. To keep it simple, mod_rewrite can do some pretty cool things, but I've made it do something very trivial:
Take an ugly URL like this:

Now to be fair, I don't really care much for commercials. Especially computer commercials. But this spot that IBM just ran was excellent. It's probably the best computer commercial since Apple's '1984' spot.
